Vladimir Zworykin – 1889-1982
Born and educated in Russia, Zworykin immigrated to the United States in 1919 and became a citizen in 1924. While working for Westinghouse, he patented in 1923 the iconoscope—the television transmission tube— and the following year the kinescope, the television receiver. Together, these were the basis for an allelectronic (as opposed to electromechanical) television system and made possible modern television technology.
